Your Investment in "One Life at a Time"
Expanding access to best-in-class behavioral healthcare
Right here in Chicago's northwest suburbs, thousands of people cannot access the behavioral health services they need due to lack of space and funding. This is especially disturbing because treatment works. AMITA Health Behavioral Medicine offers comprehensive, compassionate and respectful care for adults, seniors and adolescents who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric, behavioral, or addiction issues or disorders. Our dedicated team helps those in need return to their optimal functioning and move forward with family life, work, school and other activities.
Our vision is to rewrite the story of behavioral healthcare, "One Life at a Time." With your support, many more individuals grappling with behavioral health issues can access the best-in-class treatment they need to thrive. You are helping us transform the communities we serve by:
Expanding access to specialty care
Specialty day programs are an important step down in treatment from inpatient care. They help hundreds of children and adolescents regain functioning and healthy lives. These programs serve nearly three times as many people today as they did in 2001. Despite previous expansion efforts, there is not enough room to treat the thousands of people who use and need these types of programs. In addition, people, including veterans and their families, who need specialized long-term therapy, must leave our Health System at a crucial time in their recovery to receive residential care.
Your support helps us give more people the opportunity to stay within our Health System for their treatment needs. Learn more about AMITA Health Behavioral Medicine or about our vision for behavioral healthcare by calling the Foundation at 847.385.7300.
Caring for vulnerable people
Every year our community-based mental health and supportive housing services provide more than 3,700 people alternative options for treatment. Nearly eight out of 10 earn $10,000 or less annually. Hundreds are homeless. More than 100 children typically must wait for help. Due to the shortage of affordable housing in greater Chicago, hundreds of formerly homeless people would be back on the streets were it not for the supportive housing programs donors like you make possible through AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health and AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Housing and Health Alliance.
Your support helps us sustain mental health and housing programs that provide people living with severe and persistent mental illness the opportunity to lead healthier, happier and more productive lives. Learn more about our Center for Mental Health and Housing and Health Alliance.
Breaking down barriers
Thousands of people every year benefit from our early interventions and prevention programs. Hundreds of families affected by autism spectrum disorders receive specialized therapies and support through the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Autism Spectrum & Developmental Disorders Resource Center.
And thousands of students, parents and educators learn to better understand and recognize mental health problems, and find help for them, from our counselors working in 21 local schools.
Your support helps us actively confront the stigma around mental illness that continues to limit understanding and acceptance of people whom it impacts. Learn more about our Autism Resource Center or about our advocacy and education programs by calling the Foundation at 847.385.7300.
Making a difference in your community
With your help, we can rewrite the story of behavioral healthcare in Illinois. For every life we change, families and friends, schools, workplaces and our entire community will feel the impact.
